Labor wants you to be ashamed of our Australian flag 🇦🇺
I want to begin by expressing my disappointment with Senator Dolega’s remarks and the offensive claims directed at coalition senators and members. According to Labor, it now appears that displaying the Australian flag or showing pride in it is considered an offence.
“You criticised some of us for having the audacity to drape the Australian flag around us and be proud of our country. How dare you call that dog whistling!”
The senator’s comments suggest that showing national pride has somehow become controversial. I reject that notion entirely. Many people around the world aspire to live in Australia because it is a great country with one of the most successful immigration histories anywhere.
We are a nation built on diversity. Our community includes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, people who arrived decades ago, and new migrants continuing to enrich our culture. Australia’s strength lies in the success of its multicultural society and its shared pride in the national flag.
