As Global Crises Deepen, Leaders in Doha Urge Shift from Promises to Action

3 November 2025 – Governments, civil society, and international partners gathered in Doha on Monday to focus on practical solutions for social development. They addressed urgent challenges including rising hunger, poverty, inequality, and climate-driven instability.

This meeting was held as part of the Doha Solutions Forum for Social Development and the first leaders’ meeting of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, alongside the Second World Summit for Social Development.

Key Messages from the Forum

“Too often we face situations where we have no clear solution, no answer to the suffering we see, and it is heartbreaking,” said Annalena Baerbock, President of the UN General Assembly. “Or we have the solution [but] we are either unable or unwilling to do what needs to be done, which is frustrating.”

She emphasized that this event represents a deliberate shift from “admiring the problem” to implementing proven actions. “Today is different: we are here to avoid falling into those traps, to learn from each other; to benefit from good ideas; to join forces; and to live up to our common principles.”

Forum's Purpose and Approach

The gathering underscores a commitment to shifting from dialogue to decisive action on the world's pressing social issues.

Summary: In Doha, global leaders committed to moving beyond discussions, focusing on actionable solutions to combat hunger, poverty, inequality, and climate-related challenges.
