Edie Falco shared her desire to portray a female superhero, describing it as an exciting and fresh challenge. Known for her acclaimed performances in “The Sopranos” and “Nurse Jackie,” Falco expressed her appreciation for complex, multilayered characters.
"Never have I said I can’t do that. You sort of find a way you can go and see, because you’re able to know you have to stop before it is dangerous. And I’ve been in therapy for 7,000 years."
Falco noted that she seeks roles that offer emotional depth and psychological nuance, adding that simpler characters do not captivate her as much.
"I look for those complicated characters. That’s what makes this exciting. To play someone with a less complicated life is less interesting."
At 62, Falco feels fortunate to have embodied a wide range of richly written female roles. She believes the landscape for women in film and television has improved throughout her career.
"I’ve been very lucky that since I started working, female characters are getting more interesting and complicated. I feel like I’m riding this wave of really interesting and complicated female characters."
The “Mayor of Kingstown” star reflected on how avoiding early typecasting helped her longevity in the industry.
"I imagine if you’re only ever playing young, beautiful, sexy women, it’s going to get harder as you get older."
Looking forward, Falco also expressed an interest in portraying a political figure, joking that it might help her release some long-held energy.
"Maybe I can get something out of my system."
Edie Falco, celebrated for complex television roles, now seeks to expand her range with a female superhero part, embracing challenges that push emotional and creative boundaries.
