The upcoming Avengers: Doomsday carries immense expectations. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains a global force, it hasn't delivered the massive impact it once did. For instance, The Fantastic Four: First Steps earned just over $500 million—respectable but not a blockbuster by Marvel's standards.
The fourth Tom Holland Spider-Man film is anticipated to perform well, leading up to the long-awaited MCU crossover event. Avengers: Doomsday faced several challenges, including replacing Jonathan Majors as the lead villain, switching directors, incorporating many Fox-era X-Men characters, and bringing Robert Downey Jr. back as Doctor Doom for what was likely a hefty paycheck.
Adding further weight, Kevin Feige hinted at a refresh for the MCU following the next two Avengers films, marking Avengers: Doomsday as a potential farewell for this phase of the franchise.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Simu Liu emphasized the film’s emotional side while discussing the project’s scale.
“I mean, there are just so many actors in it, and getting to work with those people as peers is really incredible because I grew up watching so many of them,” Liu said. “It feels, in a lot of ways, like a love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies. And I think there’s something really fun about that.”
This teaser suggests that beyond spectacular action, the film aims to connect on a heartfelt level.
Avengers: Doomsday faces huge anticipation and changes, with Simu Liu promising a grand, heartfelt tribute to superhero cinema as the MCU prepares for a new chapter.
