The upcoming Scottish-set series Summerwater, starring Dougray Scott and Shirley Henderson, has unveiled its first trailer. Described as thrilling and compulsive, the six-part drama is adapted from Sarah Moss’s 2020 novel of the same name.
The story unfolds at a holiday park by a loch in Scotland, where simmering tensions among several families come to the surface. After a sudden fire engulfs the camp, suspicion spreads — could one of the guests be responsible?
“There's an ordinary violence in all of us. We're capable of such terrible things,” says Scott’s character, hinting at the dark tone of the drama.
Alongside Scott and Henderson, the ensemble includes Valene Kane, Arnas Fedaravičius, Anna Próchniak and Gabriel Scott. The adaptation was written by John Donnelly, with Robert McKillop and Fiona Walton directing.
In its official Channel 4 press release, the show is described as compelling, thrilling, and compulsive, highlighting the fraught social dynamics between the families.
Author’s Summary: A dark, tense Scottish drama exploring human frailty and hidden aggression among families at a secluded holiday park.
