Wildlife photographer Doug Gemmell experienced an unexpected moment when his planned outing to photograph a juvenile bald eagle took a surprising urban twist.
Gemmell, known for his work with birds of prey, anticipated capturing the eagle fishing over a lake. Instead, the eagle swooped down into a parking lot, diverting from its usual natural habitat.
The majestic bird landed amid cars and asphalt, creating a rare and surprising sight for city wildlife enthusiasts.
Reviewing his photos later, Gemmell noticed the eagle perched confidently with its talons clenched around a slice of pepperoni pizza.
“It’s not something you see every day, that’s for sure,” Gemmell laughed.
This encounter highlights how urban wildlife, including top predators like eagles, have adapted creatively to city environments.
