Wind and Rain Warnings for B.C.'s South Coast

Overlapping weather warnings are active Thursday morning as strong conditions move across B.C.'s South Coast and Lower Mainland.

Rainfall Warning

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a rainfall warning affecting parts of Metro Vancouver, including the North Shore, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, and Howe Sound.

Michael Kuss, meteorologist at 1130 NewsRadio, notes that the heaviest rain is expected during Thursday's afternoon commute.

“An additional 20 to 40 mm of rainfall can be expected before the rain eases off later this evening,” said the ECCC. “Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic. Local utility outages are possible.”

Wind Warning

The agency has also issued a wind warning for Richmond, Delta, the Sunshine Coast, and much of eastern Vancouver Island, with winds forecasted to reach speeds between 70 and 90 km/h.

The ECCC advises residents to “secure loose objects” as winds are expected to ease by evening.

Summary

Strong wind and rain are expected to impact B.C.’s South Coast regions, with significant rainfall and high winds potentially disrupting traffic and utilities Thursday afternoon.
