Gabriel Landeskog finally ended his long scoring drought, netting his first regular-season goal since March 5, 2022, during the Avalanche's 4-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night.
After two goals were disallowed earlier in the season, Landeskog’s persistence paid off. His goal came in the second period when he capitalized on a rebound following Valeri Nichushkin’s initial shot, outmuscling Jackson LaCombe in front of the net to put the Avalanche ahead— a lead they maintained throughout the game.
“Maybe my stick caught the goalie’s stick or something, goaltender interference, you never know,”
He hesitated before celebrating, reflecting on the previous disallowed goals but felt relieved once the scoreboard confirmed the goal.
Landeskog’s long goal drought had been a concern for fans and analysts, as well as for the captain himself, who expressed satisfaction at moving past the dry spell.
“It was nice to move on. I think it was my second-longest goal drought of my career, so it was nice to just be done with it. Had a decent amount of looks and some bounces that don’t go your way, and that’s the way the game works.”
Landeskog’s goal not only ended a significant personal drought but also helped secure a strong victory for the Avalanche.
