The Toronto Raptors aim to return to the win column and improve their defense as they face the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Currently, the Raptors hold a 5-5 record and sit ninth in the Eastern Conference. They recently suffered a 130-120 defeat against the Philadelphia 76ers on the road.
Toronto started strong, scoring 43 points in the first quarter and securing a 10-point lead. However, their offense faltered in the middle quarters. The Raptors shot 45.6% from the field compared to Philadelphia’s 51.0%. They outperformed the 76ers in three-pointers made, 16 to 10, while free throws were tied at 22 each.
Although rebounding was a weakness, Toronto excelled in points in the paint and fast break scoring. Immanuel Quickley led the offense with 22 points, and six Raptors players reached double figures.
The Brooklyn Nets struggle this season with a 1-9 record, tied for second to last in the Eastern Conference. They recently lost 134-98 to the New York Knicks on the road, with the game effectively decided by halftime. The Nets failed to score more than 20 points in both the third and fourth quarters.
Defensively, Brooklyn showed some improvement as the game progressed. The Nets shot 40.2% compared to the Knicks' 53.9% and made 14 three-pointers against New York’s 17. Free throw performance was close, but Brooklyn lost the rebound battle 38 to 46. They also committed 19 turnovers and faced a largest deficit of 39 points.
Brooklyn had six players scoring in double figures, with their top scorer contributing 25 points.
“The Raptors built a 10-point lead early but struggled offensively later, while the Nets improved defensively but were overwhelmed.”
Note: Data collected as of November.
Both teams face challenges: the Raptors seek consistency after a solid start, while the Nets battle poor offense and turnovers amid a tough season start.
