Nineteen pine martens have been released into Exmoor National Park, marking a milestone in the UK's rewilding movement.
For the first time in over a century, pine martens have returned to the forests of Exmoor. Conservationists released nineteen pine martens into the woods, bringing back a species once lost from the region.
Conservationists watched as the martens reclaimed their home, padding cautiously from their enclosures into the woods.
“It’s wonderful to see pine martens living wild in Exmoor again,” said Tracey Hamston, leader of the Two Moors Pine Marten Project.
