Indigenous Land Back Movement in Colorado

Rick Williams, an Oglala Lakota citizen with Cheyenne ancestry, is working to bring Indigenous tribes back to Colorado, hundreds of years after they were forcibly removed.

Williams is part of a movement that seeks to go beyond land acknowledgements, which are often given at meetings or graduations to acknowledge the Native tribes that once inhabited the land.

“Tell me what you're going to do about it. It's stolen.”

He asks audiences, “There's a lot of injustice that went on. What are you going to do about it?” and proposes a new approach for the state and its 6 million residents.

Author's summary: Rick Williams leads Colorado's Indigenous land back movement.
