A new California law aims to broaden the reach of Governor Gavin Newsom's mental health program, despite ongoing questions about its effectiveness.
The program, known as CARE Court, will now include people who experience psychotic symptoms due to bipolar disorder, in addition to those with schizophrenia and other limited psychotic disorders.
Newsom called the law and its expansion an important part of his administration's efforts to bring people with serious mental illness into treatment.
