Edmonton Oilers Fans Win Big in 50/50 Raffle
David and Tanya Idzan, season-ticket holders for seven years, won $254,540 at the Edmonton Oilers' playoff game against the San Jose Sharks.
Despite the team's overtime loss, the couple went home with a significant prize after buying $80 worth of 50/50 raffle tickets.
"We buy $40 worth of raffles every game," said David Idzan. "We bought $80 last night."
The 50/50 raffle, where 50% of the pot goes to the winner and 50% to the team's charity, yielded one of the biggest prizes in sports history.
- The prize of $254,640 ($336,995 Canadian) is among the largest 50/50 prizes, many of which have occurred in Edmonton.
- In 2014, the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL had a 50/50 prize of $322,216.
