A bipartisan letter signed by 28 elected officials, including Minority Leader Senator Lori Berman, urges Governor DeSantis and the Public Service Commission (PSC) to reject Florida Power & Light's (FPL) rate hike request of nearly $10 billion.
The request, which is the largest in the US, would increase electricity bills for 12 million people. Technical hearings for FPL's rate hike request began in Tallahassee.
While already dealing with rising grocery bills, property insurance and auto insurance rates, Floridians can’t afford another large hike to their electricity bill.
The officials call on DeSantis and the PSC to reject the rate hike request, citing the burden it would place on Floridians.
