Water Levels Rise at Lake Cowichan
Recent wet weather has caused water levels to rise, eliminating the need for water pumps at Lake Cowichan's weir.
Brian Houle, environment manager at the Domtar Crofton mill, stated that the wet weather has significantly impacted water levels in Cowichan Lake, cancelling plans to pump water over the weir.
- Domtar had planned to rent 20 large water pumps to sustain the river's base-water flow.
- The pumps were intended to pump water from the lake into Cowichan River.
After a severe drought in the summer of 2023, Domtar used 20 pumps for over a month to sustain water levels in the river.
