A state-record fish was caught by Caleb Bell, identified as an Alabama bass, a subspecies of spotted bass considered invasive in Tennessee.

According to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, the fish weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces, surpassing the previous record by 3 ounces.

“Unfortunately, Alabama Bass are an invasive species that was introduced illegally in Tennessee,”

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency certified the record after confirming the species in a lab.
