Former CDC Director Expresses Concern Over Public Health Changes
Richard Besser, president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and former acting CDC director, shared his thoughts on the current state of public health.
“It’s absolutely heartbreaking,”
he said, referring to the CDC under the Trump administration. Besser, a pediatrician with over 30 years of experience, discussed various topics, including vaccine policy and the connection between democracy and health.
“I used to think that I couldn’t be surprised,”
he noted, expressing his alarm at the frequent changes coming from the Department of Health and Human Services, which he believes are against the best interests of public health.
