Refurbishment of Electrostar Trains
A five-year £100 million project to refurbish over 300 Electrostar trains has been completed by Govia Thameslink (GTR) staff at the Selhurst depot.
The project, believed to be the largest fleet upgrade in modern times, was carried out in-house without the use of a third-party refurbishment company.
The refurbishment process typically involves multiple companies, including the train builder, owner, operator, and maintenance company.
The project was unusual in that all the work was carried out in-house by GTR staff.
GTR operates trains under the Thameslink, Great Northern, Southern, and Gatwick Express names.
