Vatican Names Judges for Trial of Former Jesuit Artist Rupnik

The Vatican announced that it has named judges to decide the fate of Marko Ivan Rupnik, a famous ex-Jesuit artist accused of abuse by over 20 women.

Rupnik's mosaics decorate basilicas around the world, but his legacy has been tarnished by allegations of sexual, spiritual, and psychological abuse.

The Jesuit pope, the Jesuit religious order, and the Jesuit-headed Vatican sex abuse office are suggested to have protected one of their own over decades by dismissing allegations of misconduct against him.

The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Vatican office that manages clergy sex abuse cases, has named five judges to hear the Rupnik case in a canonical court, including women and priests who don’t hold jobs in the Vatican bureaucracy.
