'Shafted': Roberts Bakery rescue deal leaves dozens unpaid with no redundancy

Roberts Bakery Workers Left Unpaid and Without Redundancy

Dozens of Roberts Bakery workers have lost their redundancy packages and pay already earned after the firm was bought and renamed by a billionaire food magnate.

In July, the struggling Frank Roberts & Sons, the bakery's parent firm, announced that 250 workers were entering a compulsory redundancy consultation period. It is understood that 86 of these workers were deemed surplus to requirements, and their contractual notice periods were enacted.

Those with the shortest notice periods were expecting to finish next week, while many expected still to have jobs until Friday, December 12.

Workers have been left feeling "shafted" after the rescue deal.
