Tragic Death of Young Woman After Miscarriage
A 33-year-old woman, Leona Cusack, died at a Limerick hospital just one day after learning she had suffered a miscarriage.
Ms Cusack was five weeks and one day pregnant, having conceived through IVF, and had presented to University Maternity Hospital Limerick with a possible miscarriage on February 15, 2024.
She told a doctor that she'd meet her again in the maternity hospital when she got pregnant again, but tragically died the next day.
The inquest into her death heard that Ms Cusack was informed of her miscarriage while alone, despite being distressed and anxious, and later died at University Hospital Limerick due to cardiac issues and sepsis.
