New Utah law swaps funding resources for emergency services statewide

New Utah Law Changes Emergency Services Funding

A new Utah bill is set to alter the funding of emergency services statewide, affecting the costs for homeowners, residents, and visitors.

According to KUTV, Senate Bill 1005 allows municipalities and special service districts to utilize a local sales tax to fund emergency medical and fire services, replacing the existing system that heavily relies on property taxes.

The Hurricane Valley Fire Special Service District could be among the first in the state to implement the bill.

Mayor Bill Hoster of Leeds, who also serves as the chair of the Hurricane Valley Fire Special Service District, stated that the shift could reduce property taxes for homeowners while expanding support for fire and EMS.
