Demolition Day Arrives for Skatepark

Works on the new Romsey Skatepark are finally underway after 11 years of planning.

The Lancefield Romsey Lions Club, a key driver of the project, celebrated the milestone as demolition works began.

“It is really exciting that it has reached this stage because of the number of people who have put in work to make it happen,”

said Ged McLaughlin, a long-serving Lions member. He noted that the community began campaigning for a new skatepark in 2014.

Romsey-based Newearth Constructions started clearing the site and has donated its labor to help make up for a funding shortfall.

The old skatepark is being demolished to make way for the new one, with Ged saying

“It’s sad to see the old skatepark go because it has been a good friend to the town, but it’s time to move on.”

Author's summary: New Romsey Skatepark construction begins.
