A councillor has submitted a proposal to relocate the bottle banks at Purth church in North Longford.
Fine Gael Cllr Garry Murtagh raised the issue at the September meeting of Granard Municipal District, calling on Longford County Council to make provision for the relocation of the bottle banks when developing the new car park in Derrycasin woods/Mullinalaghta.
The local representative stated that every area should have a bottle bank in their community to promote recycling.
The motion was seconded by Independent Cllr Turlough McGovern, who described it as a "very good motion".
Cllr Murtagh noted that the council and the Cathaoirleach are working with the local authority to acquire ground from Coillte, and suggested relocating the bottle bank at Purth, which is causing concern among residents due to its proximity to a house and attraction of vermin.
Longford County Council's Regeneration Team are currently assessing the situation.
