Concerns Over Inhumane Treatment During Deportations

A Nigerian man shared his experience of being deported by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in September.

He described being awakened in the middle of the night by ICE officers, who shackled his hands and feet, and those of other detainees, before straitjacketing them in full-body restraint suits called the WRAP.

“It was just like a kidnapping,”

the Nigerian man said, who is part of a federal lawsuit, in an interview from a detainment camp in Ghana, where he and other deportees were being held.

The use of full-body restraints during deportations has raised concerns over inhumane treatment.
