The plan to build a hospice serving Laois and three other counties has been delayed again.
The proposed development, located in Offaly, includes a 20-bedroom in-patient hospice with daycare facilities, serving Laois, Offaly, Westmeath, and Longford.
These four counties are the only ones in Ireland without a hospice for patients nearing the end of life.
The application has been on hold since July, when Offaly County Council planners requested more information.
The proposed site in Arden Lane, Tullamore, has been a point of contention, with the Offaly Hospice Foundation objecting to the chosen location in a submission to the planning application.
The delay is the latest setback in the years-long plan to build a hospice for the region.
