Councillors Agree to Freeze Allowances

Councillors have voted to freeze their allowances after a motion by Councillor Ged Mirfin, cabinet member for Resources, HR and Property, was carried in a Full Council meeting.

The motion received 75 votes in favour and three abstentions. Cllr Stephen Atkinson, Leader of Lancashire County Council, stated:

"We made the decision to vote against increasing our allowances, which will save the authority £92,000. We believe this is the right thing to do given the current economic climate, and with many residents facing extra financial pressure. We’re here to serve our community, and that means being careful with public money. Our focus is on delivering services that matter and ensuring that every pound we spend helps improve life for residents."

This decision aims to save the authority £92,000.
