President Donald Trump commuted the 7-year prison sentence of former U.S. Rep. George Santos on Friday.
Santos, a Republican from New York, was sentenced to 87 months in prison in April after pleading guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.
After his sentencing, Santos appealed to the Trump administration, claiming the sentence was overly harsh and politically motivated. He was supported by U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who called the punishment "a grave injustice" in a letter to the White House.
