Indianapolis City-County Council is demanding public hearings on a proposed settlement between the city and AES Indiana regarding a rate hike and billing issues.
More than half of the council criticized the proposed settlement, which includes a 6.51% rate increase for residential customers over the next two years.
In exchange, AES Indiana agreed not to raise rates until at least 2030 and to waive $47 million in late fees related to customer billing system issues.
The councilors pointed to a recent resolution urging AES Indiana to withdraw its rate request.
