It's time to discuss Norman Reilly Raine, a quiet member of the Luzerne County Oscar winners' club.
Unlike Jack Palance and the Mankiewicz brothers, little is said about Mr. Raine, who won an Oscar for best adapted screenplay for the 1937 film "The Life of Emile Zola", which also won best picture.
Raine was born on June 23, 1894, in Wilkes-Barre on Jackson Street, although historic records from the Times Leader are often incorrect about his life.
It’s kind of hard to imagine the current-day Jackson Street as a birthplace.
Author's summary: Norman Reilly Raine, a forgotten Oscar winner.
