UK Drama Footballers’ Wives Set for Reboot

British drama series Footballers’ Wives, which debuted on ITV in 2002, could be making a comeback in 2026, two decades after the show last aired.

Originally airing on the UK commercial broadcaster for five seasons from 2002 to 2006, the show followed a fictional Premier League football club and featured scandalous storylines involving the club’s players and their wives.

The show was added to ITV's streaming platform ITVX in 2023, after its launch on BBC Studios-owned BritBox in 2021. The show’s reception on ITVX has driven the idea of rebooting it for today’s audience.

We’re trying to bring it back but it might be in a slightly different format.

According to actor Gary Lucy, who starred in the series, a reboot is in the works for 2026, although not necessarily with ITV.

Author's summary: Footballers’ Wives to return after 20 years.
