Bruce Springsteen, Manhood and Mental Health | Opinion

Bruce Springsteen has been trying to heal himself while trying to heal us.

What does healing mean when you’ve been wounded, as a male, since childhood, in a world telling you to "suck it up, be tough, not complain, and not cry, ever"? This is a question the author has been asking themselves since childhood, and one that Bruce Springsteen, a self-reflective and prolific singer, has also been grappling with.

The author was captivated by Springsteen's voice, storytelling, and magnetism, and became affected while watching the film Deliver Me from Nowhere, about Springsteen's struggle to make his historic Nebraska album in 1982.

It is a confounding question I have been asking myself since a kid, and a conundrum Bruce Springsteen... has been grappling with as well.
