Former Socceroo Mark Milligan has recorded his first win as an A-League Men coach, thanks to a hat-trick by Alex Badolato, which powered the Jets to a 5-2 triumph over Melbourne Victory.
Newcastle coach Mark Milligan's trust in Alex Badolato has been rewarded after the 20-year-old's outstanding performance. Coming off a successful pre-season, where he was named the AFC Youth Player of the Year and helped the Jets win the Australia Cup title, Badolato set up his side's first goal and then scored a treble.
Badolato's first and third strikes were from outside the penalty area, a feat he also achieved in the previous week's loss to Central Coast. He credited his coaches for their full backing, allowing him to take shots from distance.
