Charlotte Light Rail Stabbing Victim Honored
A new butterfly species has been named after Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee who was fatally stabbed on the Charlotte light rail.
Her name will be immortalized as a butterfly. This will outlast most other tributes because it's a living organism.
According to Harry Pavulaan, president and director of the International Lepidoptera Survey, this dedication ensures Zarutska is "never forgotten".
Zarutska was fatally stabbed in August while riding the Blue Lynx Line in Charlotte.
