BC Teacher Suspended for Prompting School Lockdown
A Vancouver teacher, Christopher Leveille, has been suspended for three weeks after bringing a vintage rifle model to class, causing a school lockdown.
On February 21, 2023, Leveille arrived at Lord Byng Secondary school carrying the model rifle, which prompted a 911 call and a lockdown of the school and two other nearby schools.
The school was locked down while the emergency response team searched for the person with the gun.
Leveille intended to use the model rifle to demonstrate 1700s warfare strategies to a Grade 9 social studies class, but his actions impacted students, staff, and local transit services.
