Industry Body Urges Landlords to Prepare for Awaab's Law

Awaab's Law is now in effect for social housing landlords, and private landlords are being urged to prepare for its introduction to the private rented sector.

Under Awaab's Law, social housing landlords must provide alternative accommodation if they fail to fix emergency hazards within strict timeframes. This includes investigating and addressing serious issues such as damp and mould within 24 hours, with safety repairs carried out as soon as reasonably practicable.

The government has not announced an exact date for extending Awaab's Law to the private rented sector, but has stated that it will be applied in a fair manner, taking into account the differences between the social and private rented sectors.
