E-commerce giant Temu has agreed to collaborate with the greeting card industry to expedite the removal of designs that infringe intellectual property (IP) rights.
Publishers and design businesses have expressed concerns about the growing availability of copycat designs on online marketplaces. Following advocacy from the Greeting Card Association (GCA), Temu is introducing new software to bulk-identify and remove plagiarized designs from its platform.
Amanda Fergusson, the GCA's CEO, noted that members have had to invest time and resources to protect their IP, in addition to the financial impact.
Temu's efforts are part of its wider IP protection programme, which includes the Brand Guardian Initiative, launched in April 2024 to help brands protect their IP and ensure customers are buying authentic products.
