The North Dakota Special Secretary of State's Office announced that a special election for the District 42 North Dakota House of Representatives seat in Grand Forks will not take place.
A petition submitted by members of the District 42 Republican Party, which called for the election, lacked enough valid signatures to be approved. The petition required 656 valid signatures, but only 612 of them were deemed valid out of 726 submitted.
The seat in question was vacated by former Rep. Emily O’Brien in August, who left to take a state job. Currently, the seat is held by Dustin McNally, who was appointed in September.
No special election will be held due to insufficient valid signatures.
