Humboldt County Supervisors have eliminated the cultivation tax, citing industry woes. The tax, established by Measure S in 2014, was a tiered tax of $1 to $3 per square foot, depending on grow type.
The market has “completely crashed” amid rampant overproduction statewide.
Local cannabis farmers, such as Tom and Karen Hessler, will no longer have to pay the tax. The Board of Supervisors made this decision after noting the struggles of the industry.
