Curtis Thompson Leveled Up Large In Tokyo - Track & Field News

Curtis Thompson Achieves Breakthrough in Tokyo

Curtis Thompson has been on the cusp of greatness, with notable titles in the NCAA, NACAC, and Pan-American Games, and 5 USATF championships under his belt.

However, globally, the 29-year-old javelin thrower was shy of elite status, never having surpassed 85m until an anomalous 287-9 in '22.

This season marks a significant breakthrough, with Thompson exceeding 85m four times, including a new PR of 287-11 at the Texas Relays and 286-3 at NACAC.

At the World Championships final in Tokyo, he achieved 284-4 in round 1 and 279-10 in round 3, securing a bronze medal, the first for a U.S. man since Breaux Greer's bronze at the '07 Worlds.

His medal was the first for a U.S. man since Greer claimed bronze at the ’07 Worlds.

Thompson's performance places him among the top American javelin throwers, behind Breaux Greer and Tom Petranoff.

Author's summary: Curtis Thompson achieves breakthrough in Tokyo with bronze medal.
