Celebrity chef explains reasons behind sudden Wiltshire restaurant closure

Celebrity Chef Explains Wiltshire Restaurant Closure

Renowned chef, presenter, and restaurateur Rick Stein has shared new details about the unexpected closure of his only restaurant in Wiltshire, located in Marlborough. The restaurant, which opened in 2016 as his sixth establishment in England, was known for signature dishes such as Dover sole à la meunière and turbot hollandaise.

In an exclusive interview with the Wiltshire Gazette and Herald, Stein discussed his decision to shut the restaurant on October 5. He linked the closure to ongoing economic difficulties and a decline in visitors rather than personal choice.

"We decided to close because there just wasn’t enough business," said Stein. "We’re not going under, but we are having to restructure our business just because of the hard time we’re going through. The whole hospitality industry is suffering. Personally, I think it’s a mixture of the government’s last budget and the quite grim economic time we have been going through."

Despite the setback, Stein continues to focus on his broader ventures, including the release of a new book and an upcoming television appearance.
