According to reports from the New York Post’s Jon Heyman and Spanish broadcaster Mike Rodriguez, free agent outfielder Leody Taveras is joining the Baltimore Orioles on a one-year, $2 million deal.
Taveras, 27, is a switch-hitting centerfielder who split the 2025 season between Seattle and Texas. In 58 major league games, he hit .205 with three home runs, 17 RBIs, and a .530 OPS. He also recorded nine stolen bases in 12 attempts.
During the 2024 season with the Texas Rangers, Taveras appeared in 151 games, posting a .229 batting average, 12 home runs, 44 RBIs, and a .641 OPS. He successfully stole 23 bases in 29 attempts.
After June 7, 2025, Taveras was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma, where he rebounded with a .280 average, an .804 OPS, 11 home runs, 69 RBIs, and 23 steals in 24 tries.
The Orioles will need to open a spot on their 40-man roster to accommodate Taveras. The addition strengthens their outfield depth and brings an element of speed and defensive range to the team.
