Hilary Duff opened up about returning to the studio and preparing new music, marking a long-awaited comeback to her musical career. Her new single “Mature” is set to release on November 6, her first fresh track since the 2015 album Breathe In.
Speaking on the Therapuss podcast during its Season Two finale with host Jake Shane, Duff explained why she felt drawn back to music after a decade away.
“It was always going to happen,” Duff said. “There’s no way that that was not going to be a part of my story.”
At 38, Duff described feeling more grounded and inspired to reconnect with fans who have grown alongside her. She shared that the time away gave her perspective and confidence to reengage with her creativity.
“I’m ready to fill in the blanks and share with people and connect with them on the level of now.”
The pop star, known for her Disney roots and early music career, emphasized her enduring bond with fans she’s known since childhood. According to her, they share many of life’s ups and downs — from complicated relationships to family challenges.
“We’ve gone through a lot of the same things — whether that’s complicated relationships, anxiety, raising kids, divorces, trying to find yourself in adulthood, family drama… Finally I felt safe enough and comfortable in my own family to step outside and open that part of myself up again.”
Duff’s forthcoming track “Mature” symbolizes her evolution both as an artist and a person. Her comeback to music appears to be a blend of reflection, courage, and renewed artistic passion.
