Report: Justin Rose makes Ryder Cup captaincy decision

Justin Rose Declines Ryder Cup Captaincy

Justin Rose has reportedly decided not to succeed Luke Donald as Team Europe’s captain for the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor. Instead, the English golfer plans to continue competing as a player.

According to James Corrigan of the Telegraph, Rose will “officially withdraw his name as a candidate” to focus on making his eighth appearance for Team Europe.

At 45, Rose is enjoying a strong resurgence. He finished runner-up to Rory McIlroy at The Masters in April and later claimed his first PGA Tour victory in over two years at the FedEx St Jude Championship. Starting the season ranked 47th in the Official World Golf Rankings, he has now climbed into the top ten.

Rose remains driven by his goal of adding another gold medal to his career achievements. Qualifying for the 2027 Ryder Cup would also give him, currently world No.9, a chance to capture his sixth victory as a player. He earned two points from three matches at Bethpage Black and remains unbeaten in his last five fourballs and foursomes contests.

This decision leaves the DP World Tour with a leadership dilemma, as reports suggest Luke Donald’s odds of returning as captain for a third term are viewed as “less than 50/50.”
