Roscommon goalkeeper Conor Carroll earned Man of the Match honors as St Brigid’s defeated Pádraig Pearses in the county final, following his notable transfer from Galway.
After being eliminated in the quarter-final stage last year, St Brigid’s made a strong comeback by defeating Pádraig Pearses in a replay to secure their nineteenth county title, their thirteenth in the past two decades. The Kiltoom club, which reached an All-Ireland final in January 2024, clinched a 1-16 to 1-12 victory at Dr Hyde Park.
Carroll capped his first season with St Brigid’s by being named Man of the Match, months after transferring from Oranmore-Maree in Galway. After the game, he expressed gratitude towards the club community:
“Yeah it's brilliant, I said earlier on, off the pitch the way you get welcomed in is unbelievable. It goes without saying, Anthony [Cunningham], management, and the management team is top class, but the big thing is the people behind the scenes: the executive, club officials, the ladies who cook the meals for us midweek. That’s really what today is about. We’re lucky we just get to go out and play a game of football, it’s brilliant. But it’s thankless work they do and we’re just delighted to give a day to them.”
Summary: Conor Carroll’s standout performance helped St Brigid’s reclaim the Fahey Cup, highlighting the club’s strong community support and determination to return to glory.
