Former NFL player Antonio Brown has been extradited from Dubai to the United States and will face trial in Miami on an attempted murder charge linked to a shooting outside a boxing event earlier this year.
The 37-year-old All-Pro wide receiver, who spent most of his 12-year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is accused of firing two shots at a man following an altercation at an amateur boxing match in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood on May 16.
According to an arrest warrant issued in June, Brown appeared to grab "a black firearm from the right hip area" of a security official and fired at a man later identified as Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu.
Authorities stated that Brown had not returned to Florida since the incident. On Thursday, NBC Miami reported that Brown was extradited from Dubai, where he had allegedly been avoiding U.S. law enforcement. He arrived in the United States via Newark, New Jersey, and was booked into Essex County Jail.
Officials said he would soon be transported to South Florida, although the timing of his transfer has not been confirmed. A video circulating on social media shows Brown involved in a fight during the boxing event, which was hosted by internet personality Adin Ross.
