Australia’s Matthew Short describes Varun Chakravarthy's pace and variations as tough to decipher, posing a significant challenge as teams prepare for spin-heavy conditions at the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Indian subcontinent.
In the ongoing T20I series, Varun has taken four wickets across two innings, playing a key role in India’s effort to secure a series win on Australian soil. Australia's squad is working hard to counter his style by the time the T20 World Cup begins in India and Sri Lanka.
"What makes it harder is just how quick he bowls," said Matthew Short, the Australian batsman, on the eve of the fourth T20I at Carrara, Gold Coast.
"We’ve obviously watched a lot of footage and whatnot. But yeah, that’s probably going to be the other challenge heading to India if it is spinning or in Sri Lanka as well."
Short further added that Australian pitches generally offer less spin compared to the subcontinent, making Varun’s adaptability even more challenging.
As Australia finalizes their squad for the T20 World Cup, Short is set to play a vital role. He welcomes the chance to face top-tier Indian bowlers but acknowledges that tournament conditions will be vastly different.
“There are always ways to improve,” Short stated confidently.
Matthew Short highlights Varun Chakravarthy’s speed and skill as key obstacles for Australia, emphasizing the need for adaptability to succeed in subcontinental spin conditions at the T20 World Cup.
