Kevin Durant Predicts Cooper Flagg Will Become ‘One of the Best All-Time’

Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant has made a bold prediction about rookie sensation Cooper Flagg, saying the Mavericks teenager is destined for greatness. Despite Dallas starting the season poorly with a 2-5 record after losing 110-102 to the Rockets on Monday night, Durant remains impressed with Flagg’s potential.

The Mavericks have been hit hard by injuries, but Durant praised Flagg’s talent. “I think that he’s going to be a hell of a player,” Durant told DallasHoopsJournal.com.

“I think that he’s going to be such a nightmare… that… he’ll be considered one of the best of all time.”

At just 18 years old, Cooper Flagg has already displayed signs of elite two-way ability. The 6’9” forward has been assigned the point guard role by coach Jason Kidd and is currently averaging 13.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3 assists per game. While these stats are modest, Durant believes they don't capture Flagg’s full impact.

Durant commented on Flagg’s transition in roles, saying,

“I think that you’re going from in college playing four and five to playing point guard, two guard. That’s going to be an adjustment period for everybody.”
Durant also related personally, adding,
“I hate to inject myself into his [situation], but I came in college playing four, five. I came to the league playing a two.”

Cooper Flagg’s Emerging Role

Durant’s endorsement highlights the rookie’s potential despite the challenges of shifting positions and an injury-impacted team.
