Thailand welcomed over 100 contestants on Sunday as the 74th Miss Universe pageant kicked off in Bangkok, featuring Cambodia’s delegate despite ongoing tensions between the two countries.
Hosted under the theme “The Grand Universe: The Power of Love, The Power of Thailand,” the pageant marks the fourth time Thailand has organized this global event. Activities are scheduled through November 21 across Bangkok, Phuket, and Pattaya, aiming to showcase Thailand’s tourism and culture.
The Cambodian contestant, Thai Neary Socheata, also known as Fiyata, arrived in Bangkok even after Cambodia’s national license holder, ELEVENTO9 Company, announced Cambodia’s withdrawal a day prior. The withdrawal was attributed to “unresolved situations between Cambodia and Thailand.”
“I’ve arrived safely in Thailand. Thank you for the warm welcome, kindness, and support from everyone. Your love truly means so much to me.” — Thai Neary Socheata (Fiyata)
Fiyata's choice to participate independently ignited online discussions in both Cambodia and Thailand. She was warmly received by Cambodian supporters upon her arrival at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
The Miss Universe 2025 pageant in Thailand proceeds with strong international participation, highlighting cultural diplomacy despite regional political tensions.
