Several individuals at Joint Base Andrews became ill after opening a suspicious package sent to the military base on Thursday, November 7.
The package was confirmed to have arrived at the Maryland facility, with a spokesperson confirming the incident to Axios and CNN, which first reported the event.
In response, the building and an attached structure were evacuated, and a secure perimeter was established around the area.
"Joint Base Andrews first responders were dispatched to the scene, determined there were no immediate threats and have turned the scene over to Office of Special Investigations. An investigation is currently ongoing."
Matt Ebarb, spokesperson for the 316th Wing of the U.S. Air Force at the base, stated via email to Axios that multiple people fell ill but were promptly evaluated and treated by base medical staff. All were found to be stable and released the same day.
Authorities confirmed that normal operations have resumed and no immediate threats remain.
